not so concentric circles

just trying out a new technique i learned from a carol taylor lecture. rene has the book, so not even sure i'm doing it correctly, but i was pleased with the effect! the block is made from pre-purposed fabric (pants and a dress in its past life). the backing was a curtain. just the red square came from my quilting scraps.

50 th Day, 50th Year

Grace's school had a 50 year celebration on the 50th day of class!

Great Grandma was a seamstress...

Clara Sunricker 1890 - 1987

This was my Great Grandmother's sewing machine. We lived next door to her when I was a child and she was a seamstress by trade, so I remember people from the small town coming and going all the time for measurements and fittings. This is my MOST favorite machine to sew on. It runs so smoothly! However, other than my own diligent cleaning and oiling, it hasn't been professionally serviced in over 20 years! lol (It has to be taken cabinet and all) I'm gonna break down and bring the old girl to Gloversville in a week or two for a full spa treatment. She still runs beautifully and quiet, but the timing is a little off.

a little short on halloween fabric

thought i had many more halloween fabrics to pick from, but some are in darker tones and some are bright oranges and such. this kitty fabric was one of my favs, so just pawed thru the stash until i came up with a couple complimenting fabrics. i like how the borders are coming out! (just not very halloweeny)

Just a quick trip to Cortland for Mom's retirement party. However, the colors were gorgeous on the ride over and my camera battery was dead! Here's just one snapshot, compliments of my phone.

Passionate Patchwork

Rene's curtain FINALLY done! (and hanging in her new appartment)

This pattern is from Kaffe Fassett's Passionate Patchwork book.

Cheetah Girl Wanna-Be's

Sunflower Seeds

This is the first time I've ever harvested a sunflower head without the squirrels beating me to it! Must be because I've never planted a sunflower in that spot before. Next year they'll catch on!

Rene's Curtain

Here was my curtain from Kaffe Fassett's book. Now Rene has actually finished hers (after she helped me with mine. Hers required TWICE the squares of mine! (And wait til you see Bobbi's with a mere 1700 squares!)

My garden has a piece of Rene's home now... Thanks Rene! Love ya!

Me, Grace, and Alexandra

Alexandra's first balloon festival, of course!

Me and Lex Porch Painting

All Finished. We still have the decking to do. I'm thinking dark green stain. Then John has to put the skirting on too. Thanks for your help Lex!

Adirondack Balloon Fest 2008

The balloon I captured between the trees was one of the first balloons to fly at the festival. I took this as it flew over my daughter's elementary school. I was headed there to pick her up.
The cute lady pointing a camera at me is Shannon, our local quilt shop owner!

helloooooo !

Okay, busy summer (are there any that aren't?)
Son living in my sewing room while home from college for the summer, and considering that my fav quilting time is 4 am, hand work was called for. However, I did try one morning to provide him with earplugs and a rice bag for his eyes, but it was highly unsuccessful. This is my summer handwork project (well, mostly by hand, until it came to the quilting!)

Quilt Name: Buffy's Polynesian Adventure

p.s. It's a gift for Mommy-in-law, so SHHHHHHHHH!

Cocoa Beach

Here's my oldest kids, playing in the waves at Cocoa. Waves were a little more fun because there was a hurricane out in the Atlantic.
